Winter Sunset Seascape at Ballycotton Cliffs by eastcorkpainter Winter Sunset Seascape at Ballycotton Cliffs by eastcorkpainter
Painted from 8th September - 18th October, 2011.

Size: 30 inches x 20 inches.

Acrylics on Canvas.

I had painted a few small sunset paintings and felt ready to do a much larger canvas when I did this. The sea took a lot of time and patience.

Beautiful! Interesting brick-like geometrical shapes created on the surface of the water where the sunshine hits the water. You made the water have solid form almost ice-like yet fluid. Have never seen it painted like this before.

realistic, but abstract.

Its always good to deviate something from its natural form, even if just by a little bit.

Very nice.

A very beautiful scenery and brilliant colours, the blue tones and the warm gold and orange ones blend so well into each other. I really like the feeling of an old painting in the way you painted the sea and one can really see the effort and hard work that went into your work. Great job once again :)

The texture n color of the ocean is just gorgeous. Everything else is beautiful n well done too but the way u made the water look like it's shimmering is just amazing. I also like how u can see the subtle details of the mountain so it isn't just a flat black silhouette (<--mispelled?)

Amazing job :D

Thanks for that. There isn't a mountain there, just high rocky cliffs by the sea

This looks fantastic! I really, really like how you've rendered the sea. It looks like stained glass. And I love the contrast and gradation between the gold and the blue. It's very rich.

What I'm more sceptical about is the dark mass of land on the right. It may be that it doesn't look so dark on the actual canvas, perhaps? It feels somewhat imbalanced, though.

Hi Eleni. Thanks for the feedback. In the actual canvas the land isn't as pitch black that's true. When I was editing it, the picture had a grey look to it at first and in making it less grey the land got darker. But even on the original canvas the land is still dark enough. It's dark because the sun is so low, the glare off the light means the land is shadowy and hardly illuminated. As it's winter the light is also weak and thus the land doesn't get illuminated as much as other seasons. Thanks for taking the time to put serious thoughts across, I need that sort of feedback!

I'm sure it looks like that! And it does look good, being that dark, because it offsets the brightest parts of the sky. I just feel it takes too much space on the canvas, and in my eyes at least it's like a hole on the bottom right of the picture. I keep wanting to mentally crop it!

Other than that, it's seriously gorgeous work. Well done!

I can see where the water would have been time consuming, but one can see also where your patience paid off. Beautiful results Niall.
